You're in
The "Is It Done?" Framework.
8 checks. 5 phases. Work through each one, in order. If something's off, loop back to Phase 2 and run it again.
Phase 1: Reset
The Fresh Listen
You put your ears through torture when mixing for too long. Take a break. A few days off if you can. Come back fresh and you'll hear things you never noticed.
Phase 2: The Music
The 8-Bar Check
Every 8 bars, something needs to happen. Subtle or obvious, doesn't matter. Make sure your music is changing and progressing throughout the arrangement.
The Transition Check
New video coming soonEvery transition needs to earn its moment. No dead air, no jarring cuts. Listen to how the energy shifts between sections and make sure nothing pulls the listener out.
Phase 3: The Mix
The Soloing Technique
Not sure what the problem is? Bring in one element at a time until you find the exact moment something clashes. Then fix it. Simple, surgical, effective.
The Muting Technique
Every sound needs a purpose. Play your full mix and mute layers one by one. If you can't hear it drop off, get rid of it. Less is almost always more.
Phase 4: The Master
The Reference Check
A/B your master against a commercial track. Check your LUFS, compare your levels on a spectrum analyzer, and close the gap between your mix and what's streaming.
The Stereo Test
Studio monitors are great, but how does it sound everywhere else? Test on car stereos, iPhone speakers, earbuds, club systems. Your mix needs to translate.
Phase 5: The Outside Perspective
The Friend Test
New video coming soonYou've been staring at this project for weeks. Fresh ears catch what yours can't. Play it for a friend, a fellow producer, anyone willing to be honest.
If step 8 sends you back to Phase 2,
that's the framework doing its job.
When you make it through all 8 and nothing flags, it's done.
